Session 1

Technical Game - Grip

The grip is very important because it is your only contact with the club, A good grip makes it very easy to play good golf whereas a bad grip will make it very difficult.

Grip

To take your grip follow the 4 steps below:

  1. Point the bottom edge of the club at your target
  2. Place your right hand below your left and place the club in your fingers
  3. Close your fingers
  4. Put your thumbs on the grip so they point at your right shoulder
  5. Grip the club lightly, about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10

Remember to be very careful when taking your grip. It might feel as little awkward at first, but it will start to feel natural in no time,

Etiquette - Respecting Other Players

When you play on the golf course it is very important that you respect other players whilst they are playing their shots. In golf, we do this by being very quiet when other people are playing and also by being very still. There is one time in golf when you can be very loud. If you hit a ball at someone you shout 'FORE' as loud as you can. This is a warning to them that a ball is coming their way. If you hear someone shout 'FORE' then you should duck and cover your head to protect yourself.

Rules- The Teeing Ground

On the golf course you aim is to start on the tee and to hit me ball into the hole. In as few shots as possible. There are different coloured 'tee's' depending on the level of ability of the golfer.

Most golf courses will have:

  • Red tees(ladies)
  • Yellow tees (men and general play)
  • White tees (competitions)

You have to make sure that you always place your ball either level with or behind the tee markers or you will have to add a penalty shot to your score.

Homework

1. Try and practise your grip for 10 minutes before the next lesson so that it becomes more natural.
